Strawberry Rose Champagne Tea from Teavana

I am incredibly surprised by the number of positive reviews for this tea. I think it tastes gross. I know, not the best way to start a review for Teavana's Strawberry Rose Champagne Oolong Tea.

I'm not sure what pairs well with this. I bought some strawberries so I just made whipped cream.
I like to keep an open mind about tea. I will try anything at least once before I make a face. I mean, my people invented fish sauce so really, nothing grosses me out... at first.

I will start by saying I am not a huge fan of fruit teas. I like tea leaves and most fruit teas are overwhelmed by chunks of dry fruits, not actual tea leaves. I never gravitate towards them in any tea shop. But, I receive them as gifts all the time. I always try them first before I (usually) throw them away.

What is in here?

The latest weird tea is this interesting-sounding Strawberry Rose Champagne from Teavana. It is an oolong tea with rose buds, strawberries, grapes, vanilla, and champagne. I hardly see any tea leaves. I did see a lot of chunks of... stuff? When fruit is this dry, I have a hard time telling what it is. I persevered and made a small pot.

It smells nice, very fruity and floral. It tastes... weird, almost medicinal, like watered down Robitussin? I will give it this, it did not have the tartness I generally associate with fruity teas. I can't recall much else, I swallowed the first sip and tossed the rest. Some people really like it with sugar. Maybe it would have been good iced or even made into a mock-tail. I hear tea mocktails and cocktails are all the rage these days.

At least we get to eat the cream after the pictures were taken.
Anyway, I do not recommend this tea. But, if you like fruity teas, maybe ask the store associate to let you try some before buying it.

Strawberries are not in season but these were surprisingly sweet.

Happy sips!
