Homemade Ginger Tea: The Ultimate Cure-All

I was feeling a bit under the weather today so I made myself some ginger tea. Ginger is excellent for nausea and upset stomachs.

To make my ginger tea, I just take a fresh piece of ginger (1-1.5 inches), slice it up and add boiling water. For a stronger ginger flavor, grate the ginger to extract more juice (or grind it like I did). Naturally, using more ginger would also give a stronger flavor. Simple, right?

To add more depth, I like to lightly char the ginger slices (we also char ginger to make soup stock). That is how my mom always makes it and the way I like it most. I use Japanese filter bags (also perfect for spices and super convenient) for my ground up ginger and I steep it in boiling water for a few minutes. I added a slice of lemon and tiny bits of freshly chopped ginger. I don't add sweetener but honey would be perfect for this cup of tea. Mint is optional but would also work well.
